Earth Day Contest

We've got an exciting 2-part contest happening April 1 - 21 for the upcoming Earth Day holiday. In one part of the contest, you can win prizes. In the other, you can help a deserving Southern Maryland organization win a donation. Get started now!

Part One: The Photo

Part Two: The Vote

CPFCU is committed to keeping Southern Maryland green, healthy and environmentally conscious. For our 2017 Photo Contest, we’d like your photo(s) to answer the question: “How do you help to make SoMD green?” Do you use solar panels? Do you grow milkweed to help the Monarch population? Capture these vibrant moments and express how you’re helping to keep SoMD green!

Along with our Photo Contest, we'll be giving away $500 to the Southern Maryland environmental non-profit organization that you choose! We've hand-picked one organization from each county.  Choose from the Accokeek Foundation, American Chestnut Land Trust, and Patuxent Tidewater Land Trust. Let us know who you think should receive our donation. Read about each of these deserving organizations below.

Accokeek Foundation

Charles County

Learn More >

For 60 years, the Accokeek Foundation has been a steward of the land. Through a partnership with the National Park Service, the Accokeek Foundation interprets the past, present, and future of agriculture and environmental stewardship on 200 acres in Piscataway Park. The Foundation's programs include interdisciplinary school tours for students, living history, sustainable agriculture, heritage breed livestock conservation, natural resource stewardship and land conservation.

The park is open daily to visitors of all ages who enjoy a quiet landscape for recreation and reflection. Annually, thousands of school children visit for farm-based education, learning about environmental stewardship through a historical lens. Thanks to support from donors and members, the Accokeek Foundation provides a natural space for all to enjoy, for generations to come.

American Chestnut Land Trust

Calvert County

Learn More >

The American Chestnut Land Trust protects the Parkers Creek Preserve for wildlife to live in, for researchers to learn from, for adults to find peace on and for children to be amazed by. We invite you to come share it with us. ACLT is a member-supported, non-profit organization that protects the natural lands, waterways, cultural landmarks and wildlife habitats of the Parkers Creek watershed. The ACLT team of staff and volunteers cares for nearly 3,000 acres of land and maintain 22 miles of trails that are open and free to the public. We also offer opportunities to canoe and explore the pristine creek and its surrounding area.

ACLT’s Double Oak Farm offers earth-friendly farming, display gardens, and a new food forest. Together these projects raise more than 4,000 lbs. of produce annually which is donated to a local food pantry. Volunteers are always welcome and needed. The Parkers Creek Preserve is located between Dares Beach and Port Republic in Calvert County, Maryland on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

Earth Day is more than just a day at ACLT - it's a way of life! Come celebrate Earth Day 2017 with a weekend of activities including the Earth Day 5k Trail Run and Hike on Saturday April 22 and the Earth Day Clean Up on Sunday April 23rd.
